Let me explain: In PcM, PjM, and CE (contracts, business of architecture, project management, and construction administration), there’s a significant overlap between these topics. These 3 exams primarily make up the CDS exam. The PA (programming and investigation) exam kind of stands alone.

Is the architect test hard?

Completing the Architecture Registration Exam was definitely the most challenging part of becoming a Licensed Architect. It’s not an easy exam, and it’s not supposed to be.

Try to review all the details and all the tables that are given in the book. The tables have a lot of comparison between different systems/assemblies regarding different functions/ uses or expectations. Understanding the relative relationship of different objects/assemblies is very important to pass the PDD exam.

Is Amber book worth?

The Amber Book is expensive, but highly effective in my experience. I think it was well worth the cost to have all 6 exams behind me after a 10-week marathon. It is a daunting process, but you can do it.

There are only two books that I think you absolutely need to get: Building Construction Illustrated and the Architect’s Studio Companion. There is no wasted information in either of these books.

Completing ARE by passing all six divisions is required by all U.S. jurisdictions as a key step on the path to earning a licence. The ARE is currently accepted by the OAA, but not all Canadian jurisdictions recognize it.

Are 5.0 Fail?

A pass/fail decision on ARE 5.0 is determined by the total number of items answered correctly
however, performance in the content areas with the larger percentage of content will have the greatest impact on a score.

Are score reports?

With ARE 5.0 cut scores set, candidates will receive score reports within days of testing—not weeks. All score reports are clearly labeled pass or fail along the top of the first page. On passing score reports, the division’s expiration date—five years after the date of your exam—is also noted.

Study duration – 11 weeks TOTAL. First take, I studied 7 weeks. Retake, I studied 4 weeks. Take the exam on a Monday so you don’t have work on your mind.
