How do I take an exam? Your teacher may arrange for you to take an exam, but you can also book one yourself. You can take an exam at any one of our LAMDA Centres. We have centres all over the world which anyone can book to take their exam in.
What qualifications do I need for LAMDA?
The most important qualification to teach LAMDA Exams is a passion for communication and the desire to inspire learners of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. The teachers who specialise in LAMDA Exams come from all walks of life. There are no specific training routes to teach LAMDA and we don’t have any joining fees.
How do LAMDA exams work?
A LAMDA exam is the speech and drama equivalent of a music grade, which begin at basic levels and culminates at Grade 8. The exams use performance to develop self confidence, physical presence and a strong speaking voice.
Can adults take LAMDA exams?
Exams can be taken from 5 years old through to Adult diplomas. LAMDA offer a wide range of examinations including Speaking Of Verse and Prose, Acting, Mime, Reading For Performance, Devised Performance, Spoken English and Public Speaking.
Can you fail a LAMDA exam?
All assessment criteria must be met but a fail would be a failure to communicate the sense of the piece.
How hard is it to get into LAMDA?
Hopefully by now you are feeling pumped to add LAMDA to your audition list (if you hadn’t already), but here comes the tough bit: you are now up against approximately 2500-5000 applicants. These applicants include many of the best up-and-coming actors from around the world.
How many people get accepted into LAMDA?
Only around 400 individuals train with LAMDA in any one year (HESES return 2019). Of those, only around 140 take full-time first degree courses, and the FT UG entry cohort is only around 55, of whom 48 will typically be UK domiciled. This APP should be understood in that context.
How do you audition for LAMDA?
We may ask you to attend an audition over Zoom after your self-tape first round audition. If this happens, we’ll send you full details of what you can expect. If you are offered a recall, we’ll send you the date of the recall audition, and all the details about what to expect, about two to three weeks in advance.
Are LAMDA exams worth it?
Yes, alongside a number of other vocational qualifications, LAMDA exams count towards that all-important UCAS points total. Not only that, the qualifications can give your child extra confidence in their university interview and future university career.
What is the highest grade for LAMDA?
How Are They Marked? The maximum score in a LAMDA Exam is 100. 40 marks are awarded for Interpretation, 40 for Technique and 20 for Knowledge.
Can you skip LAMDA grades?
The exam grades are not dictated by a young person’s age. There are three introductory exams for younger children, who can start aged 5. Then there is an Entry exam followed by Grades 1 to 8. When appropriate children can skip a grade.

Where are LAMDA exams held?
London Centres are all held at the same examination venue: 155 Talgarth Road, W14 9DA. LAMDA uses Shakespearean characters to help identify which weekend Learners have entered for. LAMDA continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely.

I don’t think it is easy to get a distinction in LAMDA exams – it’s actually very tough meeting all of the different criteria, and of course it depends on what the ‘one’ ‘examiner’s like’ that your dc gets on the day and whether you get a ‘tough’ one or not, and they’re surely all rather subjective.
What should I wear to LAMDA exam?
There is no specific dress code for LAMDA Solo/Duo Musical Theatre examinations. Full costume is not permitted, but long practice skirts which help to indicate/suggest period may be worn together with small costume items such as scarves, hats, shawls, gloves or canes.

How much does LAMDA school cost?
The cost of Lambda School tuition is $30,000 USD.
However, Lambda also provides an Income Share Agreement (ISA) which allows students to pay no tuition upfront if they agree to pay 17% of post-graduation income for up to 24 months or until they have paid the $30,000 in tuition.

What is it like to study at LAMDA?

Is it hard to get into acting school?
